Ecoforester for a Day (K-10)

Join our experienced naturalists for a day in the Wildwood forest and learn what it takes to be an ecoforester! This program was developed to incorporate Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies from the BC Curriculum, and each grade range is different so returning students have a new experience each time they come!

A typical schedule might look like this:

9:15 - Your class arrives either by bus or parent drivers and you make your way down the driveway to the Education Platform.

9:30 - We do introductions, talk about rules for the day, and complete a fun warm-up activity.

10:00 - Off into the forest! Your class may be split up, depending on size. Each group will complete the same activities, just at different times throughout the morning so we’re not stepping on any toes.

12:00 - Time for lunch and free forest exploration near the Education Platform.

12:30 - Your choice of running games, nature crafts, free time, structured exploration, or story time!

1:30 - We say our thank yous and goodbyes!

Grade Range Themes

Grades K-2:

A forest isn’t just a bunch of plants, it’s a system where all the pieces, including humans and soil, interact with each other! Learn about the keys to a healthy forest and practice using your senses in nature.

Grades 3-5:

Traditional Ecological Knowledge and the science of Ecoforestry agree that before harvesting a tree you have to think a lot about the impacts of your decision. Learn to view the forest with Two-Eyed Seeing and how to identify some of our native plants through teaching each other!

Grades 6-8:

Conserving and preserving our forests isn’t just good for wildlife, it helps to combat our changing climate. Learn how a healthy forest can help to slow down climate change, and how we can make a positive difference.

Grades 9-10:

A forest has many more values than just timber and places for animals to live. Learn about the non-timber values of a forest, and decenter your human needs to appreciate the good things a forest does that don’t necessarily include us. Discuss the pros and cons of ecoforestry, and reflect on eco-anxiety and what we can do for ourselves and the planet.
