Pre-trip Information for Teachers

We look forward to having your class visit Wildwood Ecoforest. To ensure that you and your students have the best experience possible, please read through this guide before your field trip.

Ecoforester for a Day

Bring your class to Wildwood to explore the old-growth Douglas-fir trees and learn how all the parts of a forest work together. Students will view the forest through the eyes of an ecoforester, discover how a forest is more than just the trees, and learn hands-on skills to help them assess the health of a forest.

All of the student education programs at Wildwood are partially subsidized so that we can make them affordable for all families. If you are able, we would greatly appreciate a donation towards these programs to help us continue this important science and cultural education. Please click on the donation button below.

“Every child needs nature. Not just the ones with parents who appreciate nature. Not only those of a certain economic class or culture or gender or sexual identity or set of abilities. Every child”.
Richard Louv

No matter how big or small, your donation to this fund will help to instill a love for nature in someone who would otherwise face barriers to participation.

At Wildwood, we believe that all children have a fundamental right to access nature and to experience the joy of  learning in an intact forest ecosystem. Studies continually show that time outdoors is essential for children’s physical and mental health, personal growth, and academic success. We believe children should have opportunities to play, learn, and grow in nature, regardless of their family’s financial situation

The Forest Education Bursary makes that possible by keeping our programs accessible to all families.

What this fund supports:

  1. Low income families to access eco-forester for day program

  2. Low income families to access eco-forester day camps

  3. Low income young adults to participate in eco-forester workshops.
