“The Forests as Home: First People & Forests in BC” Webinar Series with Nancy Turner

Nancy J. Turner is a renowned ethnobotanist and distinguished professor in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. Over the course of her career, Nancy has authored more than 20 books and has contributed as a co-author or editor to hundreds of publications. Her work spans the fields of ethnobotany, traditional ecological knowledge, and sustainable resource use, with a particular focus on Canada and British Columbia.

Beyond her scholarly accomplishments, Nancy is recognized for the deep connections she has formed with elders and youths in British Columbia’s First Nations communities. Over the past 45 years, she has exemplified the highest standards of human relationships—those grounded in mutual respect and understanding. Her collaborative approach has fostered trust and meaningful dialogue, making her a trusted partner among Indigenous peoples.

In her forthcoming talk, Nancy will share remarkable experiences gained through her work with First Nations. She will highlight how these interactions have provided valuable lessons, offering audiences the opportunity to learn and grow through her insights and experiences.
