Ecoforestry Field School
Are your grade 11 or 12 students interested in working in biology, ecology, forestry, or some other kind of outdoors, science-y job? Take them to Wildwood for our university-style Ecoforestry Field School!
Students will receive a thorough information package prior to the trip to prepare them with background info and a project outline. In groups, they will learn and practice field skills – using clinometers to measure tree heights, plant keys for flora surveys, increment borers to age trees, and many more! After collecting data from their plot, they will leave Wildwood and work with their group to develop a harvest management plan, focused on different priorities: timber production, birds of prey conservation, recreation/education use, or reptile and amphibian conservation. We may even adapt some of their ideas for our real harvest plan!
Students will be navigating off-trail, sometimes through rough undergrowth. Please make sure students come prepared with hiking boots/shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty! Please also bring snacks, lunch, and plenty of water.
Cost: $15/student
Length: 4.5 hours
Dates: Thursdays/Fridays starting April 9th, 2026
Bursaries: Available through Wildwood upon request
