General: Fibrous-rooted perennial herb, spreading-hairy; flowering stems leafless, 2-20 cm tall.

Leaves: All basal, with short to long stalks, elliptic to oval or circular, rounded at tip; margins entire or toothed.

Flowers: Ray flowers white to pink or purple, numerous; disk flowers yellow; involucral bracts 5-6 mm high, often purplish-tinged, blunt at tip, hairy; heads solitary.

Fruits: Achenes, flattened, 2 veined, soft-hairy; no pappus.

Ecology: Lawns, pastures, roadsides, waste places; common throughout our region in or near settlements.
